Personal Prayer
Glorify the Lord, who is gracious, full of compassion, and gentle with the weak (Ps. 116:5). Thank God for rescuing you during those times when you needed his help, even when you didn’t ask for it (116:8). Confess the times when you have been impatient with others in need. Commit yourself to remembering throughout this day God’s compassion for you and to reflecting that compassion to others. Ask God to help you fulfill this vow.

For Your Family and Friends
Intercede for those you know who are “overcome by trouble and sorrow” (116:3), that God will move them to call on his name and to rely on his compassionate help.

For the Church
Ask God to make the congregations in your community centers of kindness, where those in need will find the hands of Jesus ministering to them.

For the Kingdom
Pray for prison officials, that their administration of justice and punishment may be tempered with compassion and kindness.

For People to Know Jesus
Ask God to use your friendship with one unsaved person this week as a bridge to showing him or her the gracious love of God.

Prayer Pointer
“Prayer is the great engine to overthrow and rout my spiritual enemies, the great means to procure the graces of which I stand in hourly need.” —John Newton
