The first Global Day of Prayer for International Students (GDPIS), designed to help Christians focus their faith and love on meeting the needs of visitors from abroad, will be observed on Monday, November 17. The day will be marked with united intercession by individuals and small groups, directed toward overseas visitors and those who minister to them.

International study is a growing global phenomenon. More than one million international students are now enrolled in U.S. universities and schools of higher education. In many countries, November 17 is already recognized as International Student Day and celebrated with campus festivals and events.

The GDPIS organizing committee is an independent group made up of campus ministries, including local campus fellowships, churches, denominations and outreach groups such as Bridges International, Chi Alpha, International Students Incorporated, International Student Ministries, and Overseas Students Mission.

The November 17 date comes just before the American Thanksgiving holiday—a time when Christians are urged to set an extra plate at their tables for visiting foreign students.
