. . . 2013 begins right now.
I know, the new year of 2012 has just
begun. We’re still paying for all those presents we gave away a few weeks ago
at Christmas. Ninety percent of this year remains to unfold before we have to
think about 2013; lots of living to be done before this year is complete; why
think about the next one so soon?

Just a week ago, I spent a day at an
interesting church. Rising out of the corn fields of central Iowa is the town
of Newton. Hard hit by the recession, Newton’s main employer having gone out of
business. On the edge of Newton stands a dynamic praying church of 800,

Unique Twist to Praying for the Lost |
|
|
|
|
A lot of churches have ongoing efforts
to get their people to pray for local lost people. This is an absolute
necessity if you want to be a growing church. Recently I saw a unique twist to
a basic idea of praying for the lost.

"In Jesus' Name, Amen" Not Just a Phrase |
|
|
|
|
In John 13-18, at the last supper, we have an interesting snippet into
the life of Jesus. Like a parent who is leaving his child at college for
the first time, Jesus covers everything important his “kids” needed to
know before leaving them on their own for the first time. In this talk,
Jesus reveals something they had never heard before: “Ask in my name.”
Pray in my name. It was so important that he comes back to that point
three times.

Praying Beyond Simple Fix-it Prayers
By Steve Hawthorne
Can you recall the last time someone told you that he or she was praying
for you? No doubt it was meant to reassure you. Telling people that
you’ve prayed for them is a loving way of encouraging them or cheering
them on.

How Can I Help People to Connect? |
|
|
|
We are excited to see a magazine on prayer available again. But Prayer
Connect needs your help to survive. How can you help? By helping others
connect with it. By getting the word out about it.
|
|
With the release of Prayer Connect
, and the inclusion of an annual subscription with a CPLN membership,
there are a few changes to memberships and the benefits we want to make
you aware of.

Change is hard for people. Most of us like things to stay just as they
are. There is comfort in the familiar. But the status quo seldom gets a
lot done in the kingdom.

I Would Love It if Prayer Was Seldom Mentioned! |

It’s true. I long for a day when prayer seldom will be mentioned in
church. Now before you drop your membership to CPLN or report me to the
heresy watchdogs, let me explain.

The Power of Collaboration |

Phil’s “It Seems to Me” column is highly timely where the CPLN is
concerned this issue. Because we are launching three major collaborative
projects that will change the shape of the CPLN and quite possibly the
church and nation as well. Interested?

It’s true. I long for a day when prayer seldom will be mentioned in church. Now before you drop your membership to CPLN or report me to the heresy watchdogs, let me explain.
My dream is to see churches so committed to prayer that it is just done! It is so much a part of the spiritual DNA of a congregation that no one has to beg “please come to this prayer gathering.” People just come to pray.
